Lent: Making faith contagious

In Misericordiae Vultus, the Bull of Indiction of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, Pope Francis asked that Catholics experience Lent this year “more intensely as a privileged moment to celebrate and experience God’s mercy.”

Novelist, essayist, and Portland Magazine editor Brian Doyle has won a 2016 Pacific Northwest Book Award for his essay collection, “Children and Other Wild Animals.”

A volunteer committee of independent booksellers chose six books from more than 250 nominated titles published in 2015.

'The Moor's Account' author to speak at UP
Author Laila Lalami will visit the University of Portland to discuss her book, "The Moor’s Account," and to speak on Muslim-American life at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 15, in the Buckley Center Auditorium on the University campus, 5000 N. Willamette Blvd. Lalami is the spring 2016 Schoenfeldt Distinguished Writer, and her talk will be free and open to the public.
