Edward Rooney, a member of the Madeleine and All Saints parishes, died Aug. 21. He was 86.
Mr. Rooney was born Sept. 27, 1926 in Bayonne, N.J. to Edward Rooney and Alice Sheekey. He grew up in Barberton, Ohio and came to Pacific University after a short stint in the Navy.
He married Dolores Moon of Klamath Falls in 1949, and began his teaching and coaching career in Jacksonville and Beaverton. He then went on to coach at St. Helens and Grant High schools. He also spent two years as the head womens basketball coach at University of Portland.
He is survived by his sister Alice O'Donnell, West Covina, Calif.; children, Alice (Edwin) Brown, Corvallis; Steve (Carol), Bend; Mike (Margaret), Klamath Falls; Pat (Sara), Dallas, Texas; Anne (Paul) Frey, Laredo, Texas; Tom, Wiesbaden, Germany; Ted (Lori), Portland; James, Portland; and Megan Rooney, Pittsburgh, Pa.; 23 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A service was held at St. Mary Magdalene Church.
