The University of Portland on April 16 hosted a wheelchair basketball fundraiser for Friedreich's Ataxia Research Alliance. The second annual Sam Jam was started by UP student Sam Bridgman. He was diagnosed with Friedreich’s Ataxia when he was 15. The neuromuscular disease halted his athletic career, but he has remained involved in sports and philanthropy.

Members of the Portland Pilot men’s and women’s basketball teams took part in the game against the Portland Wheelblazers of Oregon Disability Sports.
