LAKE OSWEGO — Marylhurst University is expanding its undergraduate business program to North Portland.
Starting next fall, students seeking a Marylhurst accelerated undergraduate degree in business management will have a new location to choose from: the Cascade campus of Portland Community College on Northeast Killingsworth Street.
A similar accelerated program has been offered on the Harmony campus of Clackamas Community College since fall 2010, and Marylhurst also offers an online version of the degree.
The program at Clackamas has been a popular choice of students looking for an option to finish their bachelor’s degree, says David McNamee, chair of the business and leadership department at Marylhurst.
“We’re very pleased to be able to expand our business program in partnership with PCC at a location that will allow students who live and work downtown or in North Portland a great opportunity to continue their business education,” McNamee says.
Students in the accelerated program take one five-week course at a time and attend class one evening a week. The seminar-style courses are taught by both full-time faculty and working professionals with expertise in business. Students study with peers who go through the program as a unit. The degree can be completed in as little as two years, depending on the number and type of credits a student already has accumulated.
Courses, McNamee says, include not only core business concepts, but critical thinking, global perspectives and service. Marylhurst also offers a more traditional undergraduate business and leadership degree program at its Lake Oswego campus.
The university, founded by the Holy Names Sisters in 1893, serves more than 1,600 students.
