SALEM — The Chuukese Catholic Northwest Association has invited a visiting bishop from Micronesia who will visit here for a two-day cultural celebration Friday and Saturday, March 8-9.

Bishop Amando Samo is bishop of the Caroline Islands in the Federal States of Micronesia.

On Friday, Islanders from all over the Northwest will convene in Salem at Waldo Middle School from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The night will include speakers, traditional song and more. The next day starts at 9 a.m. and runs until 10 p.m., with traditional dancing and choirs from each region of the islands. A bilingual Mass will be celebrated at 8:15 a.m. on Sunday, March 10, at St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Salem.

Waldo Middle School is at 2805 Lansing Ave. NE, in Salem. One of the event organizers, David Bernard, invites Micronesians from all over the archdiocese to attend the event, as well as people who are curious about island culture.
