A half dozen students from Jesuit High School were selected for Oregon's 2013 All-State Choir: Casey Collins, Sophia Munzel, Ben Colley, Erin Strader, Annika Tate and Suzanne Schadel. All-Northwest Choir honors for Jesuit go to Katherine Heinlen, Hanna Nightingale and Topher Usi. Matt Dietrich from Thomas Edison High on the Jesuit campus also made the All-Northwest Choir.
From St. Mary's Academy, chosen for All-State Choir were soprano Claire Martin and alto Sandra Vance. All-Northwest Honor Choir honors go to alto Kate Brouns, mezzo-soprano Elizabeth Culbertson, soprano Margaret Driscoll, alto Megan Magsarili, soprano Sam Schmiedeskamp and alto Georgia Tucker.
The students, selected from among more than 5,200 applicants from throughout a five-state region, will perform at the National Association for Music Education's Northwest Division Conference in February at the Oregon Convention Center.
Teachers say the students also will get a chance to meet music students from other schools.
The Marian Singers of St. Mary's will perform at the conference. The Marians were selected from bands, choirs and orchestras, elementary- through college-level, as being one of the best performing groups in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington. Megan Yip of Jesuit was named to the All-State Orchestra and All-Northwest Orchestra spots go to Jesuit students P.J. Hummelt, Felix Yeung and Jonathan Ho.
