Food drive is a success

More than 200 volunteers collected more than 10,000 pounds of non-perishables in parts of five Northeast Portland neighborhoods of St. Rose of Lima Parish on Nov. 19.

Items collected in the 2011 Christmas food drive were subsequently shared with neighboring St. Charles of Borromeo Parish, and between them, members of both churches will deliver Christmas dinner fixings to approximately 200 families in need the week prior to Christmas.

The food boxes, consisting mostly of food from the November drive and complemented by perishables from the Portland Council of the Society of St, Vincent de Paul, will be delivered on Dec. 17 to households in the Cully, Roseway, Rose City Park, Hollywood and Beaumont-Wilshire neighborhoods. Many of the same families that collected the food in December will also be delivering the dinners the week prior to Christmas Eve.
