A Sister of Charity who has served at Lewis and Clark in Portland and Our Lady of the Lake School in Lake Oswego marks 50 years in religious life.

Sister Marge Clark was born in St. Louis, Mo., and entered the Sisters of Charity congregation on July 31, 1963. She professed first vows on Feb. 2, 1966, and final vows on Jan. 29, 1972. She has ministered as educator, administrator and social justice lobbyist. She was director of graduate programs and assistant professor at Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa. She taught in Chicago and served as principal at Our Lady of the Lake School, and assistant college professor at Lewis and Clark. For the past nine years, she has been a lobbyist for NETWORK, a social justice group in Washington, D.C.

“Advocacy is very much teaching,” Sister Marge said, “as its intent is to open the mind and heart of legislators to a new way of understanding an issue.”

Sister Marge is among eight golden jubilarians who will gather in the Mount Carmel Motherhouse Chapel in Dubuque, Iowa, on July 21, for a liturgy of thanksgiving.
