Sr. Crystal Clark leaves the chapel at the Convent of the Holy Names after professing vows.
Sister Crystal Clark, a native of Toledo, Ore., professed vows as a Holy Names Sister this summer. She then left to serve in the Sisters' mission in Lesotho in southern Africa.
Sister Crystal first met the Holy Names Sisters through Sister Caryl Bastasch (Carolyn Frances), who did parish ministry in Newport.
The Holy Names Sisters arrived in Lesotho in 1931 and now most of the 89 vowed Sisters are from the Basotho tribe.
Sister Crystal began learning the Sesotho language in the U.S. and has been studying and helping local sisters learn more about counseling and spiritual direction. One couple has sought Sister Crystal out to counsel their daughter. Sister Crystal asks for prayers for villagers and local farmers, who are being hurt by drought.
