Dr. Kermit Gosnell in courtroom sketch.
To the Catholic Sentinel:
In responding to the letter, “Am I a liberal?” it is difficult to know where to begin because it is so loaded with left-wing propaganda. I was appalled that such errant thoughts could be written by a practicing Catholic.
The most glaring, flagrant example is when she states that clergy abuse of “little children” is equally as sad as abortion, i.e., the snuffing out, of innocent children in the mother’s womb. (Babies do feel pain early on.) I won’t mention the horrendous Dr. Gosnell case in Philadelphia. Abortion may be “legal” but it is not rare and certainly not safe.
To equate the two is stomach-turning moral obtuseness.
In addition, the writer does not have her facts straight. Less than 5 percent of the cases involved pedophilia (prepubescent); 95 percent were classified as being of a homosexual nature (post pubescent) and involved mostly inappropriate touching. What happened is reprehensible and no one is defending it and certainly not the cover-up by certain prelates. It is 100 times as likely that children will be sexually abused in the public school system than by a Catholic priest.
The writer (and other Catholics) should read Still the Best Hope by Dennis Prager. His thesis is that leftism is the fastest growing religion, and many (especially politicians) are betraying Christianity.
