Wilderness firefighting: Room for improvement?

To the Catholic Sentinel:

With the deaths of so many wilderness firefighters, we need to stop and think if maybe we need to take a different approach to their training and procedures so we can reduce the risks these firefighters face. We rely on these young people to protect us.

We cannot afford to lose anymore good men and women if there is something out there to consider.

I’m not asking to change the things that work, just maybe to take a look and see if there is room for improvement somewhere. I hope this message generates good ideas.
