STAYTON — The Regis cheer team is off to a new, and young, start this school year.
Last year, throughout football, basketball, and cheer competition, more than half the team was comprised of seniors and exchange students hailing from Japan and South Korea.
Though those members have left, Regis has two strong returners, sophomores Meghan Amsberry and Cami Malcom, as well as incoming freshmen and sophomores.
"We are excited by the energy and talent the girls are bringing to practice," says cheer coach Ariel Setnicker. "We hope the Regis crowd will see this as well and cheer along with us throughout the entirety of the football season."
The cheer squad will support the Regis football and basketball teams as well as compete in their own tournaments in January and February.
Catholic Youth Organization offers a variety of activities, including cheerleading in the fall. Alexa Scott and Anne Wasman of St. Anthony School in Tigard are part of the Tigard Youth Cheer squad this year. They can be seen cheering on football players who have joined the Tigard Youth Football leagues.
