Monk speaks on pope and peace
Br. Cyril Drnjevic
Br. Cyril Drnjevic

Benedictine Brother Cyril Drnjevic of Mount Angel Abbey spoke on Pope Francis’s view of peace last month at a gathering sponsored by Portland's Wholistic Peace Institute.

Brother Cyril served in the Peace Corps 1981-'84 and on his return became a monk. He discussed the relevance of being a monk, St. Benedict’s views on peace and Pope Francis’ teaching on peace. The new pope has called for peace in war-torn areas and his open style has served as an example for peacemaking.

In its early years, the institute held its meetings at Mount Angel Abbey. Gary Spanovich, institute director, has been invited to speak at a Vatican peace conference at the start of April.
