Newberg and environs gets new Providence health chief
|Lori Van Zanten|
NEWBERG — Providence Health & Services has named a new chief executive for the area that includes Providence Newberg Medical Center.
For the past year, Lori Van Zanten has served as chief operating and nursing officer at Providence Newberg. She replaces Alan Olive, who accepted a leadership position at Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare in Carson City, Nev. in August.
“The Providence mission is the heart of what we do and I feel privileged to serve in such a values-driven organization,” says Van Zanten.
Before coming to Providence Newberg, she served as assistant administrator and vice president of operations at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Wash. There, she led the operations for the 390-bed medical center and linked services and programs within a five-county region to improve community health, patient satisfaction and quality standards.
“She knows that being the best means inspiring people, and she’s excited to be part of a team that provides excellent services to the community,” says Janice Burger, chief executive of Providence’s Western Oregon Region.
Van Zanten says she loves to connect with people – patients, workers, doctors, the community. "It’s what makes me feel like I’m making a difference," she says.
Van Zanten grew up in Arcadia, Calif. and attended California State University, Long Beach where she earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She also holds a master’s degree in community health administration and is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.
