The Archdiocese of Portland has announced its 2011 clergy reassignments. The new posts take effect July 1 unless noted otherwise.

• Father Donald Buxman, pastor at Christ the King, Milwaukie, has been appointed vicar for clergy for the archdiocese.  Born in 1944 and ordained in 1970, he has served as associate pastor at Queen of Peace, Salem, and St. Mary, Eugene. He was director of vocations for six years.  He was pastor at St. Francis, Sherwood, and St. John the Apostle, Oregon City.  

• Father John Henderson, pastor of St. Mary Parish, Corvallis, has been appointed to be the archdiocese’s vocations director.  He was born in 1957.  He was ordained for the Conventual Franciscans in 1984 and incardinated into the Archdiocese of Portland in 2009.

• Father Kelly Vandehey, formerly vocation director of the archdiocese will return to Sacred Heart in Medford as pastor. From 1996-’98, Father Vandehey served as parochial vicar at the Medford parish. He had been vocation director since 2002 and, before that, pastor at St. Charles Parish in Northeast Portland. Born in 1963, he grew up in the Roy/Banks in Washington County. He was ordained in 1996, and was assigned parochial vicar at St. Mary Cathedral in 1999.

• Father Liam Cary, who also previously served as vocation director and assisted at St. Luke in Woodburn, has been appointed pastor of St. Mary Parish in Eugene.
Born in Portland in 1947, Father Cary was ordained in 1992.

• Father David Brown, previously pastor of St. Mary, Our Lady of the Dunes, Florence, and St. John the Apostle, Reedsport, has been appointed pastor of St. Paul in Eugene. Born in 1958, he was ordained in 2007.  Father Brown served as parochial vicar at St. Mary Cathedral, Portland.

• Jesuit Father Roy Antunez, formerly pastor of St. Alice Church in Springfield, has been appointed pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Cottage Grove. Born in 1935 in Santa Maria, Calif., Father Antunez was ordained in 1971. He has served in Washington, Montana and Hawaii, and in Oregon at St. Ignatius and the provincial office in Portland, Sacred Heart, Medford, and St. Luke, Woodburn.

• Father Theodore Prentice, formerly parochial vicar at St. Anthony Parish, Tigard, will now be pastor at St. James, Molalla. Born in 1963, Father Prentice was a former mechanical engineer who was ordained in May 2004. He served as parochial vicar at St. Mary Parish, Eugene, and pastor at Star of the Sea Parish, Astoria.

• Father Patrick Brennan, formerly vicar for clergy and moderator of St. Rita Parish, Portland, will be pastor of St. Mary Cathedral in Northwest Portland. Born in 1951, Father Brennan was ordained in 1977 and has served as associate pastor at St. Therese, Portland, St. Mary Corvallis, president/rector of Mount Angel Seminary, and vicar for judicial affairs for the archdiocese. He was spiritual director for seminarians at North American College in Vatican City.

• Father Mark Bachmeier, formerly of St. Mary in Eugene, will serve as pastor at Holy Cross Parish in Portland. Born 1961, Father Bachmeier was ordained in 1989. He has served as parochial vicar in St. Anne, Grants Pass, and St. Mary, Eugene, and pastor of St. Mary Star of the Sea in Astoria.

• Father Michael Vuky will serve as pastor of Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Verboort, and St. Francis of Assisi in Roy. Born in 1976 Father Vuky was ordained in 2005. He has studied theology at the Pontifical North American College in Rome and Canon Law at The Catholic University in Washington, D.C. Previously he served as a parochial vicar at St. Mary Parish, Eugene and Sacred Heart Parish in Medford.

• Father Steve Clovis, formerly pastor of St. Paul in Eugene, will become pastor of St. Mary Parish in Corvallis. Born in 1962, he was ordained in 1989. He has taught at Central Catholic High School for several years, and was then named co-pastor of St. Francis, Portland, and pastor of St. Wenceslaus, Scappoose, before his time in Eugene.

• Father Steve Geer, formerly pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish in Stayton, Our Lady of Lourdes in Jordan and the mission St. Catherine of Siena in Mill City, will serve as pastor of St. Therese Parish in Portland. Born in 1955 he was ordained in 2006. Raised a Presbyterian, he became Catholic in 1997. Before going to Stayton, Father Geer served as parochial vicar at St. Cecilia Parish, Beaverton.

• Father George Wolf, formerly pastor at St. Mary Cathedral, Portland, has accepted an assignment as pastor of Holy Family Parish, Portland. Born in 1951 he was ordained in 1980 and has served as parochial vicar of St. Matthew Parish, Hillsboro, and pastor of Our Lady of Victory Parish, Seaside, and Queen of Peace, Salem.

• Father Ed Coleman, formerly pastor of St. James in Molalla, will be pastor at Immaculate Conception Church, Stayton. Born in 1952, he has been a lifelong resident of Oregon. He was ordained in 1986. He has served at St. Alexander Parish, St. Mary, Eugene, Sacred Heart, Medford, St Paul, Silverton, and St. Anthony, Forest Grove.

• Dominican Fr. Francis-Hung Quang Le will become pastor of Holy Rosary, Portland. He served as pastor of Holy Family Cathedral in Anchorage since August 2008. Ordained a priest in 2004 at St. Theresa Church in Oakland, Calif., Father Le is a native of Vietnam, from which he escaped its Communist rule in 1977.

• Father Roger Fernando, administrator at St. Therese Parish, Portland, has been appointed to serve as administrator of St. Mary, Florence, and St. John, Reedsport.
Born in 1948 in Hettirippuwa, Sri Lanka, he was ordained in 1975 for the Diocese of Chilaw, Sri Lanka. He served in Sri Lanka and California before coming to Oregonas parochial vicar at St. Anthony, Tigard.

• Father David Jaspers, previously parochial vicar at St. Joseph Parish, Salem, has been appointed as administrator of St. Alice, Springfield. He was born in 1977 and ordained in 2009.

• Father Luan Nguyen is the current administrator at Star of the Sea in Brookings.  He will become pastor of that parish as of July 1.  He was born in 1968 and ordained in 2008.  He served as parochial vicar at Our Lady of the Lake, Lake Oswego and St. Joseph, Salem.

Three of the parishes’ newest parochial vicars were ordained June 4 and will begin their assignments July 1.

• Father Mark Gikenyi was appointed to serve at St. John the Baptist Parish, Milwaukie. Born in 1978 in Kisii South (Gucha), Kenya, he graduated from the Salvatorian Institute of Philosophy and Theology in Morogoro, Tanzania, in 2005 and entered Mount Angel Seminary in 2006. His ministry preparation in Oregon has included All Saints Parish, Portland, St. John, Milwaukie, St. Mary Parish, Corvallis, and Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, Southeast Portland.

• Father Bryce McProud has been assigned to St. Mary Parish, Eugene. Born in 1948, he was ordained a priest of the Episcopal Church in November 1978. He was received into full communion with the Catholic Church in October 2008. He was ordained a transitional deacon of the Catholic Church and has served as a deacon at St. Peter and at St. Mark parishes, both in Eugene.

• Father Jesus Angelo Te has been appointed to St. Mark and St. Peter churches, Eugene. Born in 1977 in Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte, Philippines, he attended the University of San Carlos in Cebu City earning a degree in accounting in 1998. He also did graduate work in the Philippines. His ministry experiences have included assignments assisting at Christ the King, Milwaukie, St. Peter and at St. Mark, Eugene. 


• Dominican Father Vincent Kelber has been appointed parochial vicar at Holy Rosary, Portland, effective Sept. 1.  Born in 1977, he entered the novitiate at St. Albert Priory in Oakland, Calif., in 1999. He completed his studies and after his presbyteral ordination in 2007, he was assigned to Holy Family Cathedral in Anchorage, Alaska where he serves as associate pastor.

• Dominican Father Francis Goode has been appointed to serve as parochial vicar at St. Thomas More Newman Center, Eugene. He trained for priesthood at the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology in Berkeley, Calif.  He was ordained a priest in 1987 and has served at Blessed Sacrament in Seattle (also Campus Ministry at University of Washington), St. Dominic in Los Angeles, St. Dominic's in San Francisco, and other locations of the Western Province.

• Father Eric Andersen, formerly parochial vicar of Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Verboort, and St. Francis of Assisi in Roy, will be parochial vicar at Sacred Heart, Medford.  He was born in 1967 and ordained in 2009.  He was also parochial vicar at St. Cecilia, Beaverton.

• Servite Father Steve Ryan, administrator of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Cottage Grove, since 2004, came out of retirement in Berkeley, Calif. Born 1929 and ordained in 1955, he was supposed to stay for six weeks and has served there since. He plans to move back to the Servite community in Berkeley, Calif.

• Holy Cross Father John Wironen, who has served as pastor at Holy Cross Parish, North Portland, will retire. Born in 1941, he was ordained for the congregation of Holy Cross. He has served at Providence Medical Center, the University of Portland, and St. Elizabeth Parish, Southwest Portland. He also led a house of Holy Cross-sponsored youth volunteers in Portland and was superior of the Holy Cross priests and brothers community at the University of Portland. He will stay at the Holy Cross community at the university.  

• Father Scott Vandehey, pastor of Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, is also retiring. Born in 1939, he was ordained in 1966. He served as associate pastor at Blessed Sacrament, Portland; St. Thomas More, Portland; St. John the Baptist, Milwaukie; and the Madeleine, Portland. His first assignment as pastor was at Holy Name Parish, Coquille. He then served at Holy Redeemer, North Bend, St. Mary, Eugene, and St. Cecilia, Beaverton. He will move to the St. John Vianney residence in Beaverton.

• Dominican Father Augustine Hilander, formerly parochial vicar at St. Thomas More University Parish, Eugene, will be reassigned out of the archdiocese. Born in 1977, he was ordained in 2008. His position at St. Thomas More was his first priestly assignment, but he had been to Eugene before working for a summer at the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

• Dominican Father Anthony Patalano, who has served as pastor at Holy Rosary, Portland, will be reassigned as pastor of Holy Family Cathedral in Anchorage, Alaska. Born in 1944, he made his solemn vows as a Dominican brother in 1974. Most of his career as a brother was spent teaching in Los Angeles and a Catholic high school in Orange County. He was ordained a priest in 1986.
