To the Catholic Sentinel:

Partnerships for Global Progress was the theme for this year’s UN Day celebration, the organization’s 68th anniversary. Each American president has asked citizens to reflect upon the importance of the United Nations to our national interest.

The UN is behind eight global objectives aimed at improving the lives of the world’s poorest.

The objectives also embody basic human rights — the rights of each person to health, education, shelter and security.
