Students call for vouchers in nation's capital.
To the Catholic Sentinel:

In the Oct 4-17 issue, James Flynn laments the unfortunate black children in low-performing schools in Washington DC (but ignores similarly underperforming schools in the local area), and wonders how they can escape this form of slavery.  He then asks: “Who is blocking their escape via school vouchers?”

Mr. Flynn, I agree with you that “local politicians” share part of the blame, but so do national politicians and taxpayers.

However, vouchers are neither the only, nor the best way, for us to improve education in this great country!

The best way is to have parents actively involved in their children’s education, to have good (not shabby) school facilities in every neighborhood, and to have great teachers in every school.
