To the Catholic Sentinel:

William Purcell wonders why 54 percent of Catholics voted for President Obama.

I can give him one personal reason: The Affordable Health Care Act. Four years ago our adult son fell two stories, suffering a traumatic brain injury. More recently two daughters were diagnosed with breast cancer.

All three were insured through employment, though in Joe’s case coverage soon ran out.

Fortunately he lives in New York, where state taxes provide ongoing therapy (not available in other states) that further his recovery.

Had my daughters been uninsured, they may not have afforded medical tests that enabled early detection.

Our family’s experience convinces me our country needs Obama Care.

We should have a single payer system for everyone, treating illness promptly.

Let insurance companies cover homes and property, not human health.
