The new chief of service learning at the University of Portland is an expert in leadership. David Houglum will be director of the University of Portland Moreau Center for Service and Leadership starting July 1. He has been interim director since last fall.

Houglum holds a Ph.D. in leadership studies and a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Gonzaga University and received an undergraduate degree from Pacific Lutheran University. He has served as associate director of Student Leadership and Development and director of the Ignatian Leadership Institute at Loyola Marymount University.

“He has an amazing depth of knowledge and experience in service learning, student formation, and Catholic social teaching,” says Holy Cross Father Gerard Olinger, vice president for student affairs. “He has shared his gifts generously with our students as interim director and I look forward to his continued contributions as director of the Moreau Center.”

The Moreau Center offers students opportunities to serve in local, domestic, and international projects.
