St. Juan Diego Parish in Northwest Portland held its first Spanish Mass on July 6. The weekly Mass, held at 10:30 a.m. Sundays, is one of only a few prime-time Spanish Masses in western Oregon.

Father Terry O’Connell, pastor, presided. In the preceding weeks, he visited neighboring parishes to invite Spanish-speaking Catholics who live in St. Juan Diego’s boundaries to come home for worship.

The parish has trained 10 lectors, a half dozen or more eucharistic ministers, a handful of altar servers and a music group.

English Mass times have not moved too much. The now start at 8:45 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.
