The lay ecumenical group the People of Praise have opened a small high school in North Portland called Trinity Academy. Five ninth graders from area Catholic schools have begun what organizers say will be a rigorous and faith-based classical education.

Jo Clark, who holds a Ph.D. in pharmacology from Georgetown University, left her position as adjunct professor of chemistry at the University of Portland to become the head of school. The faculty includes members of the People of Praise and other experienced faculty members.

Humanities, science, math Latin and scripture will be among the subjects.

Students will wear uniforms and for now will take part in sports at nearby public schools.
