LAKE OSWEGO — At an Our Lady of the Lake Parish tasting event here, someone vociferously complained that Franciscan Sister Marilyn Barry’s star-shaped treats were terrible.
Instead of being offended, Sister Marilyn and other participants had a good-natured laugh at the complainer, who hadn’t noticed the label identifying the baked stars as liver and bacon dog treats.

The dog treats are one of more than 600 recipes included in the Feed My Sheep Cookbook, a collection of parish recipes contributed by parishioners, friends, neighbors and local restaurants.

The desire to create the cookbook was inspired by the camaraderie of the parish’s Funeral Luncheon Ministry, under the direction of Sister Marilyn.

The $20 book went on sale just before Easter. Recipes sections are organized by the seven sacraments, such as “Baptism: Appetizers & Beverages,” “Holy Communion: Main Dishes,” “Matrimony: Sweet Treats,” and “Anointing the Sick: Soups.”
