Central Catholic High School held a school-wide Homecoming assembly Oct. 5 to welcome Galen Rupp back home to his alma mater.

Rupp, a 2004 graduate who took the high school running world by storm, just hit the pinnacle so far in his athletic career. He won a silver medal at the London Olympics in the 10,000 meters, a split second behind the winner. It was the best U.S. men's distance event finish in decades.

“Galen embodies all that we would hope for in a Central Catholic graduate,” says John Harrington, president of the Southeast Portland school. Harrington says the school is proud of Rupp's accomplishments "and look forward to following him in the years ahead.”
