The Assembly of Catholic Mothers was established in France in 1850 by a small group of Catholic mothers who met daily to recite the Hail Mary to Our Lady of Sorrows and pray for her almighty power to bless and protect their children.

The Assembly of Catholic Mothers of Our Lady Lavang Parish gathered recently for a two-day retreat, Mass and celebration of 30 years since the branch was established. There are 3,406 branches of the Assembly of Catholic Mothers worldwide.

The Lavang branch has over the years had more than 260 members. Kathy Nguyen was elected as chairwoman. She succeeds Sen Dinh in the post.

Dinh joined the Assembly of Catholic Mothers at Our Lady of Lavang Parish 27 years ago, when her family first came to Portland.

“My sincere hope after I retire is to have more Catholic mothers joining the Assembly,” she said.
