MARYLHURST — The board of trustees of Marylhurst University has selected Melody Rose as the university’s 15th president. Rose, who currently serves as chancellor of the Oregon University System, will join Marylhurst in mid-August.

“Her background and track record of successful academic leadership will be a great asset to Marylhurst,” says Andrew MacRitchie, board chair.

As chancellor of the university system since March 2013, Rose has guided the organization through a period of governance reform and transition.

She served from 1995 to 2012 at Portland State University, including as vice provost for academic programs and instruction, where she was responsible for accreditation and assessment, and managing a budget of $15 million. She is a tenured professor of political science, and has served in faculty positions since 1995, including chair of the division of Political Science.

“I look forward to joining Marylhurst and building on the university’s strong commitment to empowering students,” said Dr. Rose. “The history and mission of Marylhurst are an inspiration to me personally, and I look forward to working with the faculty, staff and board to serve our students and advance the vision and values of Marylhurst.”
