Fr. Thomas Hosinski
Fr. Thomas Hosinski

Shannon Mayer, a physicist, and Holy Cross Father Thomas Hosinski, a theologian, will offer a session on religion and science at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, in Buckley Center room 163 on the University of Portland campus. They will explore the possibilities of integrating their fields. Both are UP professors.

Mayer will provide examples of how faith and science are integrated in the life of a professional scientist. Hosinski will reflect on how religion and science complement each other, so that together they give us a deeper understanding of reality.

The lecture will be preceded by a brief ceremony presenting the annual Garaventa High School essay contest awards, beginning at 4 p.m. The 2013 contest theme is  "Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?" (Isaiah 43:19). The contest began in 2005 and is open to all Catholic high schools in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah, and Nevada.
