Vickie Lee Elwood died June 5. She was 71.

Mrs. Elwood was born Sept. 5, 1942, in Olympia, Wash., to Rocco and Ruth Purgatorio. Her family moved to Tacoma in 1951 and she graduated from Fife High School in 1961. She married Claire Elwood in 1973 and they lived in Des Moines, Wash., until Claire was transferred to Portland in 1974. They lived in Lake Oswego before settling in Northeast Portland. After Claire died in 1995, she worked at Nordstrom and volunteered at the Madeleine Parish.

She is survived by her sisters Patricia (Donald) Oliver, Puyallup, Wash.; Bobbiejean (Robert) Heym, Anchorage, Alaska; sister-in-law, Barbara Purgatorio, Tacoma; brother-in-law, Gordon Elwood, Lake Oswego; stepchildren, Christine Elwood, David Elwood, Kathleen Cody and Jeff Elwood; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 12, at the Madeleine Parish. Memorial donations can be made to S'Wheat Rescue, P.O. Box 34463, North Kansas City, MO 64116 or wheatenterrierrescue.org.
