Linda Weigel, director of the Archdiocese of Portland Tribunal, died March 1. She was 59.

Weigel was born Feb. 12, 1954, in Silverton. She attended St. Pius X School and was a 1972 graduated of Sunset High School. She earned a master’s degree in theology from Mount Angel Seminary in 1998. She worked as a pastoral associate at St. Mary Church in Corvallis, St. Cecilia Church in Beaverton, and St. Pius X. She earned a licentiate degree in canon law from St. Paul University in Ottowa, Canada, in 1992. She worked for the archdiocese’s tribunal, and became director in 1994.

She provided pastoral support and judicial processes in the area of marriage annulments. She also was entrusted with the research and consultation of church law for Pastoral Center staff, pastoral ministers and those who approach the Tribunal for assistance.

She was preceded in death by her father Richard “Dick” Weigel. She is survived by her mother Betty, and brother Pete (Michelle).

A vigil service is planned for 7 p.m., Thursday, March 7, at St. Pius X Church, with a reception following. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, March 8, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
