Sister Lavone Morisky (Sr. Mary Felice) died July 2. She was 89.

Born Felix Joseph and Bertha Long Morisky in Emmetsburg, Iowa, she and her family moved to Mount Angel when she was 10. She attended Sacred Heart Academy in Salem. She graduated from high school in 1942 and joined the Holy Names novitiate.

After profession of vows, Sister Lavone taught in Seattle at Sacred Heart, the Immaculate Conception and St. Patrick’s schools, Holy Rosary in Pomeroy, St. Aloysius in Spokane, and St. Mary’s in The Dalles. She served as principal and teacher at St. Peter, Newberg, St. Paul, and Coos Catholic schools, before going to the Marylhurst Convent as nurse and driver, and finally as coordinator for the Provincial House sisters.

For eight years she worked in parish ministry at St. John the Apostle church in Oregon City, before starting her final mission at Providence Medical Center, where she worked in home care, and as a lab courier. But retirement was not the end of her service. From the beginning of Mary’s Woods she became the volunteer sacristan and chapel coordinator.

She is survived by her sister, Sister Lois Morisky; brothers Don, Jim, Tom and their families; friends; and her religious community. Memorial donations can be made to the Sisters of the Holy Names Retirement Fund, P.O. Box 411, Marylhurst, OR 97036.
