Robert James Friedhoff, a member of Sacred Heart Parish, died Jan. 21. He was 86.

Mr. Friedhoff was born April 18, 1927, in Portland to George and Loretta Friedhoff. He attended Sacred Heart Elementary and Columbia Prep High School, graduating in 1945. He moved to Connecticut to attend the U.S. Coast Guard prep school and then entered the Coast Guard Academy, graduating in 1950. He married Rosemary Bader in 1952. He work as a naval architect at the Bremerton, Wash., shipyard, and then moved with his family to Vienna, Va., in 1966 and worked for the U.S. civil service supporting the Navy. He retired in 1987.

Rosemary died in 1990. He married Beulah two years later. They moved to Portland and lived at the Mirabella retirement community.

He is survived by his wife, Boots; sister, Ann Marie; daughters, Dianne and Kathy; sons, Robert, John and Jerry; stepchildren, Janet, Dan, Jim and Jeff; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
