Richard Cuddihy died May 28. He was 81 .

Mr. Cuddihy was born May 24, 1933, in Webley, England, to Kathleen (Cass) Cuddihy and John Cuddihy. He attended school in Ireland and finished his secondary studies at St. Kieran's College in Kilkenny. In the mid-‘50s he worked in traffic for Aer Lingus Airlines in Dublin. He worked for a bank in London. He attended University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada, and transferred to Oregon State University in 1960. He' married Phyllis Petterson in 1965 in Dublin, Ireland.

They moved to Portland where he started work for Esco Corporation, a steel company. In 1971 they purchased property in Yamhill and planted the first of what eventually would become nearly 25 acres of grapes and Desmesne Ste. Bride Vineyards. In the ‘70s they were also involved in a wine distributing operation, Willamette Valley Wine Company, in Portland.

He was preceded in death by his son, Sean. He is survived by his children, Kevin, Siobhan and Shane; and six grandchildren.

A service will be held Tuesday, June 10, at St. Stephen Church, starting with a rosary at 7 p.m., and a requiem Mass at 7:30 p.m. Cantores in Ecclesia will sing the entire Mass.
