Matt Wagner died March 6. He was 96.

Mr. Wagner was born Sept. 11, 1917, in Sterling, Colo., to Mathias Wagner and Magdelene Boesch. He grew up on a farm. He attended Mount Angel Abbey College, where he studied accounting. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1941, was called to active duty before Pearl Harbor. He married Hazel in 1942. His military career lasted 25 years. He retired in 1966 as a lieutenant colonel. He then worked in electronic sales and real estate before earning an associate’s degree in computer science. He retired again in 1979. While living in Lake Oswego, he was involved at Our Lady of the Lake Church.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Hazel; children, Jim (Debra), Chuck (Massumi), Barbara, Peggy (Jeff), Carol, Richard (Dixie), Dee Dee, Joe and Cathy (Scott); 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Buck; and many nieces and nephews.

A rosary will be said at 10 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, at St. Patrick Church in Canby. Memorial donations can be made to Canby St. Vincent de Paul.
