ROCKAWAY — Madeline Louise Bluemle, a member of St. Mary by the Sea Parish for 25 years, died Feb. 10. She was 86.

Mrs. Bluemle was born in Springfield, Ohio. She graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1946 and Good Samaritan School of Nursing, Cincinnati, in 1949. After working at Cincinnati General Hospital and Springfield’s Mercy Hospital, she joined the Army Nurse Corps in 1953, and retired as a Lt. Colonel in 1978, living in Seaside and Manzanita for 25 years, before moving to Portland.

During her 25 years in the Army, she worked in all areas of nursing, including administration and research.  Overseas assignments were in France, Germany and Hawaii.  She had a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Incarnate Word College in San Antonio, Texas, and a master’s degree in nursing from Wayne State University in Detroit. She spent her last years at Town Center Village Retirement Community in Portland.

She is survived by a sister, Catherine Murphy, Dayton, Ohio; sister-in-law, Helen Jean Bluemle, Indianapolis, Ind.; and nieces and nephews.

A Mass was celebrated at Christ the King Church in Milwaukie. Memorial donations can be made to the St Vincent de Paul Society in Portland.
