Joseph Avio died Oct. 7. He was 98.

Mr. Avio was born June 19, 1914, in Vignole Borbera, Italy. At the age of 5, he moved to Portland. He attended Llewellyn Grammar School, and then continued his studies at Benson High School, graduating in 1932. He married Monica Moore of Astoria in 1939, and they lived together in several towns in Oregon prior to establishing a residence in Portland. He had a 41-year career at Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Company.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1974. He is survived by his three children: Diane Avio-Augee (Hollis), Portland; Kenneth Avio. Victoria, British Columbia; and Adriana Dorsey (Daniel), Vancouver, Wash.; as well as seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life and memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 13, at St. Elizabeth Church. A reception will follow. Memorial donations can be made to the Ray Hickey Hospice House (P.O. Box 1600, Vancouver, WA 98668).
