John William Bobzien died June 19. He was 82.

Mr. Bobzien was born Sept. 29, 1931, in Bismarck, N.D., to Otto John Bobzien and Carmen Anna. He and his family moved to Portland in 1937 and he graduated from Central Catholic High School. He enlisted in the Navy, and returned to Portland after serving four years. He married Anita King in 1957. He earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Portland in 1959 and a master's degree at the University of Oregon in 1967. He taught elementary and middle school at Robert Gray School for 30 years before retiring in 1989. He then grew hazelnuts, Christmas trees and peaches on a small farm near Scholls.

He is survived by his wife, Anita; children, Lisa (Paul) Griffiths, Lori Kemper, Phillip (Coleen) Bobzien, Paul (Valeri) Bobzien and Kenneth (Cathy) Bobzien; sisters, Florence Klein and Dolores Huwaldt; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 15, at St. Peters Lutheran Church, 4265 SW Golf Course Rd., Cornelius. Memorial donations can be made to the Oregon Food Bank.
