Joan Currie Poppe died Jan. 30. She was 86.

Mrs. Poppe was born June 28, 1926, in Bend. She grew up on a sheep ranch in Silver Lake, and went to high school in Lakeview. She graduated from University of Portland with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She worked at St. Charles Hospital. She married John Currie and moved to Portland. She worked for 40 years at St. Vincent Hospital. Currie died in 1977, and she married Dr. Karl Poppe in 1988. He preceded her in death in 2012.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Gene O'Keeffe, Josephine Schroeder and Maryann Basey. She is survived by four children, Colene (Stephen) Bell of Battle Ground, Wash., Cathleen Currie of Boise, Idaho, Brenda Currie of Portland and John (Julie) of Reno, Nev., and five grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 8, at St. Mary's Cathedral Church, followed by an interment ceremony at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The celebration of life will immediately follow the graveside services at Kell's Irish Pub 112 SW 2nd Ave, Portland.
