James Tierney died July 30. He was 90.

Mr. Tierney was born Jan. 23, 1923, in St. Paul, Minn., to John and Mae (Robinson) Tierney. He moved to Newport in the early 1990s, then to Portland in 2010. During his 24-year career in the U.S. Air Force, he was a radioman on a B-29 in Japan, then assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv and London, retiring as a master sergeant. After his retirement, he was an investigator at a law firm and insurance firm. While living in Newport, he was a member at Sacred Heart Church.

His first two wives, Kay and Rose, preceded him in death. He married Rose in 2000, and she survives him. He is also survived by three daughters, Kathryn Tierney, Sault, St. Marie, Mich.; Linda Dennis, Newport; and Margaret Styler, Albany; sister, Helen Wenger, St. Paul, Minn.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 13, at St. Henry Church in Gresham.
