SALEM — James Patrick Sackinger died Sept. 3. He was 86.

Mr. Sackinger was born July 1, 1926, in Olean. He was a graduate of Bolivar Central School and the University of Notre Dame in 1950 with a master's degree in physics. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1946 to 1952.

Pat worked as a vacuum physicist and engineer and holds more than 15 patents.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Sackinger; his children, Constance Noelle, Carol Wilcox, Theresa Payne, Susan Sackinger, George Sackinger, Cris Mukensnable, Paul Sackinger and James Sackinger; one brother, Thomas Sackinger; his stepchildren, Pamela Manning, David Manning, Janette Manning, Nancy Wolske, Michael Manning, Timothy Manning, David Manning and Cecelia Manning.

A Mass was celebrated at Queen of Peace Church in Salem. Memorial donations can be made to Queen of Peace.
