Agnes Sawyer died April 26. She was 96.

Mrs. Sawyer was born Dec. 22, 1916 in Ord, Neb., Nebraska to Frank & Anna (Denemarek) Mares. Just out of grade school she moved to Omaha, Neb., to be a family domestic helper. The Dustbowl Era left her family with nothing and they moved to Scappoose in 1936. She married Tom Sawyer in 1946 at St. Wenceslaus Church in Scappoose. They moved to Portland, then on to Astoria for 17 years, back to Portland for 11 years and Milwaukie for the past 32 years.

She is survived by her children, Mike Sawyer (Elaine), Hillsboro; Rose Bucher and Joseph Sawyer, Milwaukie; and Len Sawyer, Wasilla, Alaska; two sisters-in-law, Mary Mares and Evelyn Baker, Scappoose; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Wenceslaus Church in Scappoose.
