This fall marks a change in leadership for 6A St. Mary’s Academy, with Wayne Hodges coming on board as new head varsity coach. A former semi-professional soccer player in his native United Kingdom, Hodges brings experience both coaching and on the field.

“At the recent summer league, I got a great first look at the talent that’s available at St. Mary’s from the raw and very ambitious freshmen to the returning wise old heads of the seniors,” he said.

Hodges aims to build a team with a blend of many assets: skill, stamina, heart, integrity and leadership in every position in every squad, from the captain of the varsity team to the players on the bench at the JV2 level.

Hodges has set team and individual goals to pick up the extra points needed to achieve the Blues’ objective of winning the Mount Hood Conference title.

“We will take that confidence into the playoffs and further,” he said.
