SALEM — Blanchet Catholic School has hired Justin Hubbard as the school’s new head varsity football coach. Make that "returning" coach.

Hubbard graduated from Amity High in 2001 where as a player he helped lead the team to three state championships under Amity coach Jeff Flood. After graduation, Hubbard joined Flood’s coaching staff then made the move to Blanchet Catholic School where both men coached from 2002 to 2006.

Since 2007, Hubbard has been coaching football at North Salem High and JV boys basketball at Blanchet.

Hubbard says sports are a platform for learning life lessons, especially responsibility, dedication and teamwork. He aims to get to know players individually and stresses discipline and conditioning.

“Justin Hubbard has already touched the lives of many Blanchet Catholic School students in positive ways as an assistant coach in football and basketball," says Ron Miller, Blanchet's athletic director. "His commitment to hard work has proven to many students that sports are a positive way to learn life lessons and create success on and off the field or court."

Miller expects player numbers to rise to levels seen five years ago because of Hubbard's "mixture of fun and excitement for the game of football.”
