WASHINGTON — Pope Francis has named Msgr. Steven Raica, 61, chancellor of the Diocese of Lansing, Michigan, to be the bishop of Gaylord, Michigan.

A native of Michigan ordained for the Lansing Diocese, Bishop-designate Raica has served as chancellor since 2005, his second time in the diocesan post. He previously was chancellor from 1997 to 1999.

His appointment to Gaylord was announced June 27 in Washington by Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, apostolic nuncio to the United States.
