The catholic bishop of Honolulu is urging Catholics to oppose same-sex marriage. In a letter included in parish bulletins, the bishop asked Catholics to pray the rosary daily over the next several weeks while walking around the state Capitol block. “Just as God tumbled down the walls of Jericho, he will be able to do so through the prayers and action of his beloved people.”

The bishop said quick action is required because Gov. Neil Abercrombie “is considering calling a special session of the legislature to consider the issue of same-sex marriage.”

The bishop himself sent a separate 1,000-word letter to state senators and representatives, urging them to reject any effort to legalize same-sex marriage in Hawaii, to protect traditional marriage and to prevent religious freedom from being eroded by same-sex marriage legislation.
