Springtime dresses and tiny sandwiches were part of the tradition at the 2014 Archbishop’s Seminary tea Wednesday.

Attendees nibbled tiny sandwiches and sipped cups of tea, although many opted for iced tea on account of the sublime weather. By buying tickets to the tea, guests help the Seminary Tea Committee provide spiritual and financial support to Mount Angel seminarians.

This year’s tea was held at the Madeleine Parish in Northeast Portland. Father Mike Biewend, pastor, planted flowers in the lush parish gardens until guests began to arrive.

The Archdiocese of Portland’s new prelate, Bishop Peter Smith, greeted guests along with Archbishop Alexander Sample, Archbishop Emeritus John Vlazny and Mount Angel Abbey Abbot Gregory Duerr. Many other clergy visited for the tea.

Through its history, the committee's annual tea has raised nearly $1 million.  Proceeds from this year's event will be presented to Archbishop Sample during a Mass and luncheon later this month.
