The last Mercy Sister at the old Mount St. Joseph — now Laurelhurst Village — has retired. Sister Georgita Cunningham had been doing pastoral care at the location, served by the Sisters of Mercy since 1900. Holy Names Sister Kathleen Hecht took over the pastoral care role when Sister Georgita departed May 1.

Father John McGrann, chaplain at the retirement community, has led a move to plant a tree in honor of the Mercy Sisters and prepared a memorial plaque. A ceremony is set to begin at 2 p.m. Monday, July 28, in the chapel with Mercy Sisters present.
