Think you get married because you're "in love?" Think again.

Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers explains that the sacrament of matrimony, at its foundation, brings a man and a woman together so they can die to themselves to get each other to heaven. Deacon Burke-Sivers, a member of Immaculate Heart Parish in Portland who appears on EWTN, will speak about marriage 7 p.m.-9:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at St. Cecilia Parish Hall in Beaverton. Admission is free.

The talk will include many scripture references.

The session is being organized by the Catholic young adult group that meets at St. Cecilia Parish. Katelynn Kiefer, organizer of the association, is herself engaged to be married and is an advocate of substantial marriage preparation.

"Society tells us that marriage lasts as long as we feel 'in love' with our spouse," Kiefer says. "The Church has a very different idea."
