SALEM — Mid-Willamette Valley religious leaders convene March 13 to state their resolve against the death penalty.

Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Buddhist and Sikh ministers will speak after the simple dinner, set for 6 p.m. at Salem’s St. Mark Lutheran Church.

Speakers will call for repeal of the current law, seeking better alternatives that keep the public save and hand out appropriate punishment.

The Rev. Karen Wood, chaplain at Willamette University, will be the mistress of ceremonies.

One of the speakers will be Father Tim Mockaitis, pastor of Queen of Peace Parish in Salem.

Leaders of Oregonians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty will lay out plans for moving toward repeal of the death penalty in Oregon.

Tickets are just $20 and reservations for tables of 8 are available.
