Six new members have joined the board of directors of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Portland.

The Rev. Daryl Dixon, an ordained minister in the Church of God, is founder of the Diversity Resource Group. He has worked with organizations and companies to help every employee feel recognized, appreciated and valued.

Deacon Jesus Espinoza, pastoral associate at St. Alexander Church in Cornelius, helps to minister to migrants living at a camp near Scholls whenever possible.

Carmen Gaston is assistant vice president for alumni relations at the University of Portland. A UP graduate, she also holds a degree from Creighton School of Law.

Alfonso Lopez-Vasquez, director of diversity and assistant professor at Pacific University, has been an educator at many levels for 40 years and a consultant addressing equal education and employment opportunity.

Alma Trinidad, who holds a PhD in social welfare from the University of Washington in Seattle, has worked with Asian Pacific Islanders and other communities in health and mental health promotion.

Father Charles Wood, parochial vicar at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Lake Oswego, is a member of the Brotherhood of the People of Praise, a lay ecumenical community whose members share community life and resources.

“Our new board members bring a wealth of talent to their service to Catholic Charities and we are delighted that they have agreed to join us,” says Henry Chin, incoming board chair. “We are confident that they will help to strengthen our organization as we prepare to welcome a new executive director.”

Chin says the board members are chosen in part to represent the diversity of the community.

Returning board members Carol Wachter and Nelly Rodriguez will be joining the executive committee of the board as treasurer and secretary respectively.
