The Archdiocese of Portland's Office for Religious Education has planned an in-service for parish Directors and Coordinators of Religious Education on Monday, Aug. 20. The in-service will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mount Angel, and will run from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

The morning workshop will be presented by Sybil MacBeth and will center on prayer. Participants will learn an active, meditative and playful prayer practice to create an entrance into stillness and listening. It is way to prayer when words do not come easily, when one's mind begins to wander, or when one just needs a new way for prayer. Sybil will present an easy way to teach the five kinds of prayer to children: intercession, petition, confession, adoration and thanksgiving.

The afternoon workshop will be presented by Linda Jones. This workshop will explore a variety of preferred learning styles that will guide new understanding in the classroom. Ms. Jones will explore many ideas that address the styles of each student based on Child Development. Participants will have an opportunity to assess their own style of learning.

The cost of the in-service is $30, which includes lunch. More information and online registration is available on the Archdiocesan website
